Italy: It Comes As No Surprise (Operation “Scripta Manent”)

wolves

As I had already written in a statement a few days ago about the operation “Scripta Manent” [“written words remain“], 32 comrades across Italy were awakened by the dogs in uniforms at dawn on September 6.

The result of this new operation, ordered by Turin Prosecutor’s Office through its inquisitor Roberto M. Sparagna, is 7 arrested and 15 under investigation. The eighth comrade, editor of Croce Nera Anarchica [Anarchist Black Cross], Daniele was arrested following the search when they found the batteries and a handbook for electrician.

Apart from Alfredo and Nicola, already in Ferrara’s prison for the wounding of Roberto Adinolfi, the other arrested comrades are Alessandro, Marco, Danilo, Valentina and Anna.

The articles 270bis [association for purposes of terrorism], 280 bis [attacks for terrorist or subversive purposes] and 285 [threatening to commit a terrorist crime] are the sum of the alleged offences which started as far back as 2003 and are related to a series of attacks signed by “FAI-Federazione Anarchica Informale”, through the cells ““Narodnaja Volja”, “Cooperativa Artigiana Fuoco e Affini (occasionalmente spettacolare)” [Fire and Similar Craftwork Cooperative, occasionally spectacular], “FAI/RAT (Rivolta Anonima e Tremenda)” [Anonymous and Terrible Revolt], and the cell “Olga”. The comrades Alfredo and Nicola have assumed the responsibility for their participation in this cell and for the wounding of Adinolfi.

So, another investigation of Informal Anarchist Organization, another attempt to fishing in troubled waters just to ensure the salary which is going to fatten another Savonarola and his family in the period between the investigation and the trial.

Am I surprised by just another operation?

Not at all!

If I swim in the ocean voluntarily, I know very well that I will meet the sharks sooner or later. But, these sharks can be sure they can’t scare me in the crossing…

I WILL NOT RETREAT!

Prosecutions, searches, investigations, prisons and trials don’t touch me at all. On the contrary, the more I feel you on my back the more I feel the rage…

They will never make me take a step back, and they will never make me change my mind that, from the moment I came into this world against my will, I will do my best to live better in it…

They will never make me change my idea that the direct action is the only weapon to destroy this miserable and opulent existent.

Therefore, I am not a “poor comrade” who has suffered harassment from cops and a judge, because since I realized that I madly love my ideas, I took everything into consideration, with no exceptions.

A small example can be this temporarily reopening of the RadioAzione website which I shut down more than a year ago, and now it will try to update the comrades exclusively on this operation, publishing communiques, solidarity acts and updates on arrested comrades.

It will not be publishing anything else, and the reasons are the same which led me to shut down the web site in August 2015.

I hope that the non-Italian comrades won’t hold it against me, I have many doubts even today about things that I don’t know well and I didn’t knew well in the past.

It is not a coincidence that I will update only on operation “Scripta Manent”.

In this operation are involved the very few comrades, brothers and sisters, the ones I always felt very close to in these last twenty years, and with some of them even more.

Alessandro, Marco, Danilo, Valentina, Anna, Alfredo, Nicola, and Daniele too, will be  on my mind every day until the day I will see them out of the concentration camp of the State.

They will walk with me, in my thoughts, outside the prison walls, bars and special sections.

They will walk with me, in my thoughts, along the dark path which leads to anarchy.

In the end, the national press are reaffirming the same role of inquisitors and jackals, following very carefully a series of anarchist websites to transcript on their toilet paper excerpts of our reflections, accompanying them with their Lombroso-reminiscence analyses.

Especially the center-left press, like good little ships and the voice of the master, in order to hide the fact that the money for the earthquake, and for the previous one, will never be allocated (it will be used for restructuring the bank of the minister Boschi’s father), it splashes the anarchists and their solidarity communiques across the front page, hoping for comments from the idiotic and conservative zombie mass who lives in the suburbs of the net.

But, don’t worry, because in our thoughts are also you, journo hacks and jackals.

As with every empire that should be destroyed, it begins with destroying the army to reach the kings and the queens.

If the “written words remains”, be sure that despite the arrests and searches our ideas will survive too, until the day we will see them realized… but in that world there will not be a place for you.

For anarchy, for direct action.

After turning my room upside down and visiting those of my roommates, they asked me to accompany them to the police station to list the sum total of the raid and receive a receipt of confiscation.

Narrm / Melbourne: Anarchist demo at the US Consulate in solidarity with the September 9 Prison Strike

1 5 6 7

Today, 09.09.16, a small group of anarchists demonstrated at the US Consulate in Narrm / Melbourne, so-called ‘Australia’ in solidarity with the September 9 Nationwide US Prisoner Strike Against Prison Slavery.

A banner was unfurled at the entrance to the consulate that read: “SOLIDARITY WITH THE PRISON STRIKERS” and comrades began yelling several slogans including: “LAND OF THE FREE, HOME OF THE BRAVE, WHY DO YOU STILL HAVE FUCKIN’ SLAVES?” and “BURN THE BANKS, BURN THE PRISONS, JUST MAKE SURE THE COPS ARE IN THEM!”

In response to the demonstration and some of the comrades taking photos, the consulate staff locked the doors and turned the lights off inside the consulate, presumably as some kind of paranoid security measure. Officers from the AFP (Australian Federal Police) observed the demonstration but did not intervene or make any arrests.

A comrade read out the original declaration announcing the prisoner strike, some more slogans were chanted, then the comrades left as a group behind the banner, still chanting. As the comrades left the vicinity of the consulate an AFP car pulled up and an officer got out and attempted to ask for names and the reason for the protest however they were completely ignored and the comrades were able to leave the area without any problems.

Italy: Text from anarchist prisoner Alfredo Cospito in solidarity with the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire

Genova - processo ai due anarchici accusati del ferimento del manager Ansaldo, Adinolfi

On the 30th of August Alfredo damaged the glass partition windows of the interview room in the high surveillance section of Ferrara prison in solidarity with the prisoners of the CCF who were recently sentenced to more than a hundred years in prison for an attempted escape.

Today August 30 almost 4 years since my arrest I wanted to celebrate the anniversary with the destruction of the interview room window panels. This action is my contribution of revolutionary solidarity with my brothers and sister of the CCF-FAI-FRI who were condemned by yet another judicial process and sentenced to 110 years each for a failed escape attempt. The anarchist prisoner is not a flag, nor must we build a monument around them, sometimes they are a piece of our heart, sometimes not…nevertheless they continue to struggle, to live…not to be remembered, but wanting revenge, freedom, but ultimately they may also be alone because by nature they do not belong to any flock…

Long live FAI-FRI

Long live CCF

Italy: 30 searches and 5 arrests for the attacks of Informal Anarchist Federation (FAI)

fai2

In the early hours of September 6, an operation coordinated by the Digos [political police] of Turin led the searches of 30 homes in various Italian regions (Piedmont, Liguria, Lazio, Umbria, Lombardy,Abruzzo, Campania, Sardinia and Emilia Romagna) and the arrest of five anarchist comrades accused of subversive association with terrorist intent: Anna, Marco, Sandrone, Danilo and Valentina; in addition, a notification in prison for Nicola and Alfredo.

The operation, called “Scripta Manent” [from Latin proverb “verba volant, scripta manent” — spoken words fly away, written words remain], tries to attribute to a single direction a series of direct actions claimed by the Informal Anarchist Federation, reproducing in this way the same repressive strategies of some previous operations, such as Servantes and Boldness (“Ardire”), and trying to impose an associative and vertical structure on the expressions of anarchist conflictuality.

In particular, the attacks inserted in this investigation include the parcel-bombs sent to the CPT’s [detention centres for immigrants] director in Modena in May 2005, to the traffic-cops barracks in Torino-San Salvario and to the chief-police of Lecce (claimed by FAI/Narodnaja Volja), the explosive device against the RIS barracks [carabinieri forensics] in Parma (October 24, 2005, claimed by FAI/Cooperativa Artigiana Fuoco e Affini-occasionalmente spettacolare), the parcel-bomb sent to the Mayor of Bologna Sergio Cofferati (November 2, 2005, claimed by FAI/Cooperativa Artigiana Fuoco e Affini-occasionalmente spettacolare), the devices against the carabinieri cadets’ barracks in Fossano (June 2, 2006, claimed by FAI/RAT-Rivolta Anonima e Tremenda), the devices placed in the Turin neighbourhood, Crocetta (March 7, 2007, claimed by FAI/RAT); among the other actions also the wounding of Adinolfi (May 7, 2012), despite the fact that two comrades have already been convicted and have publicly claimed this attack, to corroborate the crime of association.

It seems that the investigators, felt the need to structure their clues, used even linguistic and graphology experts, in addition to electronic and computer surveillance, and tailing.

Probably, the male comrades will be transferred to the prison of AS [high surveillance] in Ferrara, and the female comrades to Rebibbia in Rome, but we prefer to await confirmation before publishing the addresses.

‘Sacco and Vanzetti: A journey through time’ by the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire

181789-pirines

Here is a text that several imprisoned members of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire in Athens, Greece, wrote for an event at the squatted anarchist centre Bibloteca Kaos in Brazil.

To all comrades, to all our anarchist brothers and sisters who are present in this event organized by the anarchist library Kaos. Let our thoughts break out and travel to Brazil so as to send these few words with the hope that maybe a little, you can feel our presence beside you.

In response to the subject of the event taking place during the International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners and on the case of Nicola Sacco and Bartholemeo Vanzetti we would like to throw in our personal and historical contribution. The Conspiracy of Cells of Fire was from the very beginning an anarchist group of direct action that aspired to an upsurge of the anarchist aggressive presence in Greece. Thus, the CCF did not hesitate to often criticize that which was believed to be preventing the generalization of this intensification. But when the oppression finally made it to our doorstep, we fully understood that we would not own up to our standards should we refuse to defend our identity, our political viewpoints and our very substance. Furthermore we could have ended up being in complete contrast with our critiques against others in the past. So seven years after the day that repression struck us, we remain at the forefront of anarchist dignity, at least so as we perceive it. We refused to dishonor ourselves in any way and defended what we believed we had to defend, still paying the price of our uncompromising attitude.

Going back to the past in a time when two comrades, anarchists of praxis forged in the fire of revolt, Nicola Sacco and Bartholomeo Vanzetti were arrested with the charges of armed expropriation and murder, we face challenges not in the least unprecedented. A fact which accrues by ample evidence is that both Sacco and Vanzetti, participated in informal militant networks of anarchist affinity all of which were affiliated to publications such as the anarchist newspaper Cronaca Sovversiva, in whose publishing they helped themselves, and which supported the need of propaganda by praxis. It is also known that these informal militant networks were responsible for a series of attacks that shook the United States from 1914 onwards and that they were being funded by armed expropriations. Finally, it is a fact that some of the comrades of Sacco and Vanzetti have confided, after the murder of the two comrades, that they were two of the five robbers of the shoe factory in Braintree, Massachusetts. One of Sacco and Vanzetti’s comrades Mario Buda, for example, in an interview, when asked about the financing of his team he responded, “We would usually go and take them (the money) from where they could be found”, meaning the banks and factories. Many years later, in 1955, he received a visit from the anarchist Charles Poggi who was investigating historically the case of Sacco and Vanzetti. In the discussion between them, Buda admitted at least to the participation of Sacco in the robbery in Braintree with the phrase “Sacco was there” (“Sacco c’ era”). Poggi had the impression that Buda was one of the robbers as well, but due to his discretion he didn’t raise the issue.

The two comrades were arrested after a chase and although armed, without the technique of ballistic investigation, which hadn’t been perfected at that time, there was no incriminating evidence against them since all the witnesses could not testify to anything reliable. Thus both comrades chose to defend themselves declaring they were innocent of the robbery, yet guilty as anarchists, at a time, when as little as this is, could be enough proof for someone to be prosecuted, tortured, imprisoned or even deported, as the wave of anarchist attacks that rocked the US had caused the state to take emergency measures against anarchists and anarchist immigrants with a series of laws.

At the highlight of the anti-anarchist hysteria which was baptized Red Scare, the two comrades tried to balance on a thin line as to both avoid the death penalty, and maintain their dignity, since they stubbornly refused to forfeit their identity despite the fact that this alone could prove sufficiently condemning.

Unfortunately the case of Sacco and Vanzetti is solely remembered today, as a prime example of government fabrication. The historical narrative that has prevailed, is attempting to cast a veil over the broader historical context of the era in which the prosecution of two comrades enveloped, and deliberately mislead portraying them merely as organized unionists, when Sacco and Vanzetti and nearly all the comrades aroundCronaca Sovversiva had deeply anti-formalist feelings, distancing themselves from the official anarchist organizations.

Ultimately the case of the two comrades, has been degraded into a story that elevates the value of victimization, instead of being a timeless example of proud anarchist insurrection. Such a theme is hardly unknown even to this day. Naturally every comrade always retains the right not to give away even an ounce of himself to the enemy, especially when they have insufficient evidence -if any- to convict him or her.

Yet that is one thing, whilst the political fetishism of victimization, that deliberately and utterly forgets those who choose to personally defend their militant commitment to anarchy, is another. And if one is in doubt, let them wonder as to why the names of Sacco and Vanzetti’s comrades are to be cast into oblivion. For how many still remember or know even, about the ‘dynamite-girl’, the 19-year old comrade Gabriella Antollini, who claimed responsibility for transporting weapons and explosives? How many remember Nicola Recci who lost almost all of his hand while manufacturing explosive devices? How often is Carlo Valdinoci mentioned, who died by a bomb explosion that he was planning to plant in the house of the Minister of Justice Palmer; or Andrea Salsedo, who was thrown out of a window by cops during an interrogation about a claim of responsibility that was discovered in his print shop? All of these and many more, were destined to be left out of the history books, because as it happens, they were not “innocent”.

At this point, we have to stress that Sacco and Vanzetti, despite declaring themselves innocent of all accusations, never did they denounce their insurrectionary heritage. A fact proved by the number of offensive actions throughout the world made as an indication of solidarity to both comrades. From the bombing, using a wired car, of Wall Street to the parcel bomb sent to the US ambassador in Paris, as well as dozens of bombings of American embassies in a number of countries. The comrades would often themselves urge the movement to retaliations against the state and judges. In June 1926 in an issue of Protesta Umana Vanzetti wrote among other things: “I will try to see Thayer dead before his announcement of our sentence” and asked fellow comrades for “revenge, revenge in our name and in the names of our living and our dead.” The article concluded with “Health Is In You” which was the title of a manual about explosive devices published by Cronaca Sovversiva (some say translated by Emma Goldman herself).

Even to this day, the rich contribution of insurrectionary anarchy in the solidarity movement with Sacco and Vanzetti, is largely neglected. On an occasion such as the call for the International Week of Action for Imprisoned Anarchists the legacy of such militant solidarity is definitely worth remembering in its whole perspective. Anyone who believes the dissociation with militant acts of solidarity is new or lacks roots, is deeply mistaken. A noteworthy fact is that, all the while certain anarchist circles in Argentina slanderedSeverino Di Giovanni, accusing him even of being a fascist, Sacco’s widow in a correspondence a few days after the execution of both comrades expressed her gratitude for his support to their case. In the same letter she indicated that the director of a certain firm of cigarettes named “Combinador” had offered to give to a particular kind of cigarettes the brand “Sacco and Vanzetti”, shamelessly trying to make profit from the notoriety of their case. On November 26, 1927 a bomb planted by Di Giovanni and his comrades blew up a branch of said company in Buenos Aires. Part of the very same group was the comrade of Sacco and Vanzetti, Ferrecio Coacci, who had since been deported from the US. Coacci was also a suspect in the robbery for which Sacco and Vanzetti were convicted and his house was the very first to be raided in regards with the case investigation.

We hope these few words to incite interest to those attending the event, and set the grounds for an authentic and comradely discussion on all aforementioned issues since unfortunately, we are doomed to learn nothing of our history, thus condemning ourselves to the same mistakes time and again .

From the heart, we send to all of you, our warmest greetings.

For the end we ought to remind ourselves the phrase of anarchist Luigi Galleani, comrade of Sacco and Vanzetti and one of the publishers of Cronaca Sovversiva:
“No act of rebellion is useless; no act of rebellion is harmful.”
